Globe Telecom of the Philippines announced that it will begin providing WiMAX service in various regions of the country from Luzon to Mindanao by year-end 2009, The Manila Times reported on August 17. According to an official at Globe Telecom, provinces and cities expected to be able to access the company's WiMAX service by the year-end include: the Metro Manila, Rizal, Benguet, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Southern Luzon, Bataan, Cebu, Bohol, Iloilo, Leyte, Guimaras, Capiz, Negros Island, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, Compostela Valley, the Agusan provinces, Lanao, Surigao, Cotabato and General Santos. The subscriber rates are expected to start at 795 pesos (US$16.5; US$1=48.3 pesos) to up to 2,029 pesos (US$42.0) per month, with a maximum network connection speed of 512kbps.
